𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻, 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆.
As an ongoing project, industrial geometry, mechanised iconography, and unconventional methods of ornamentation are reorientated by designating functionality as a means of embellishment. Utilitarian roles become obsolete in the assembly process, as specification-led applications inherit aesthetic intention and human intuition.
𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗮 𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿.
Manually assembled from Surgical Stainless Steel (316L) & Naval Brass (C46400) nuts which are referred to in the Afrikaans language as moere. Often used in fishing, cargo restraint, load securing, and towing applications, and now woven between each hexagon, Co-polymer fishing line, Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6 rope secures these symbolic materials in place. Each 316L zip tie serves as both a fastener & a challenge to traditional design practices.

Juxtaposed 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 are locally sourced precious and semi-precious South African minerals, such as citrine and smoky quartz. By combining mass-manufactured elements with Earth’s natural mineral matter, each piece embodies a unique formation and story to be worn.
As we repurpose the planet's ore to produce tools of the trade, 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 to ground that which we cannot physically carry.

“Here again, the boundaries between function and ornament, object and body, dissolve. Industrial materials — often drawn from systems of machinery and production — are subtly transformed, their symbolic and material properties rearticulated rather than concealed. All pieces are assembled individually in the studio, whilst the artist sources their embellishments locally. Working with precious and semi-precious stones, organic materials, found objects, and utilitarian tools ensures that each assemblage remains unique.
